Starr Duffy Wheeler fondly recalls her years at Wilmington College. She greatly benefited from the nurturing campus environment and discovered direct links between the liberal arts and her career preparation in business.
Starr broke into the emerging field of analysis research as the computer age was in its infancy. She ultimately developed a computer software program that organized hospitals' large databases.
Starr, who served as a WC trustee from 1990 to 2003, is proud of the role Wilmington College played in preparing her for career success and has funded gift annuities, a charitable remainder trust, an insurance policy, and a bequest in her will—all of which will pay great dividends for the College. Both the charitable gift annuity and the charitable remainder trust provide income to Starr and at a higher rate than she would receive from commercial providers. They will ultimately benefit WC students.
