Philip and Barbara Bayless have been a significant part of the Wilmington College community for more than 50 years, and they have made plans to continue contributing to the life of the College even after they are gone. Phil joined the chemistry faculty in 1954 and taught for more than 34 years before retiring in 1988. The couple still resides in the home they built near the campus on land that was provided to them by the College in the 1950s as compensation to tenured faculty. Phil and Barb have made plans to give the College the property through a retained life estate plan. They continue to use the property exactly as before but receive tax deductions for the value of the property spread over several years with the intent it will go to the College after their deaths. Phil and Barbara have spent their lives enriching students' lives and that of the community. Through this gift, they will continue to help students and impact the College they love even after they are gone.
