Ben Lowe

James ’58 and Edna ’61 Landon from Greensboro, North Carolina, established the Landon Family Scholarship in 2003 in order to help students reach their education goals. Each year they add to the endowed fund, and Nationwide Foundation matches their gift. When Ben Lowe of Zanesville first visited WC, he quickly realized it was a good fit. His years at WC were made possible, in part, by receiving a generous Landon Family Scholarship. He was a student-athlete in the Honors Program with a dual major in accounting and marketing. He said about his time at WC that the "Quaker atmosphere" was especially conducive to a teaching and learning community, and being a member of the men's basketball team was like being part of "a band of brothers."

Ben is impressed that WC alumni funded his scholarship. "The Landons' sacrifice for a future alumnus encourages me to want to someday give back too," said Ben, who graduated in 2011 and has begun to fulfill that pledge with small donations each year earmarked for scholarships. When he is able, he hopes to also make a planned gift and become a Marble Society member.
